Lovecrafts Kurzgeschichte »Reanimator – Der Wiedererwecker« lernen wir Herbert West kennen – einen ebenso genialen wie irregeleiteten Forscher, der davon überzeugt ist, dass der menschliche Körper nichts weiter als eine organische Maschine sei, die man selbst nach dem Tod wieder »neu starten« könne. Als Sanitäter begibt sich West unter anderem an die Flandern-Front des Ersten Weltkrieges, denn dort gibt es genug menschliches Material für seine Experimente …

Tim Currans Hommage »Die Wiedererweckten des Herbert West« lässt uns tiefer in dieses dunkle Kapitel eintauchen. Wir erfahren von geheimen Laboren, Legionen wandelnder Toter und grausamen Experimenten, einer Monstrosität, die sich von den Toten ernährt, und einem unvorstellbaren Wesen jenseits von Leben und Tod, welches sich im Schutze der Nacht auf die Suche nach seinem wahnsinnigen Schöpfer begibt.

Vor 200 Jahren brannte die Siedlung Clavitt Fields bis auf die Grundmauern nieder. Die Hoffnung der Einheimischen, dass mit dem Feuer auch das unaussprechlich Böse von diesem Ort vertrieben wurde, erwies sich als frommer Wunsch. Denn das Grauen verkroch sich unter die Erde – und lauert dort in der Dunkelheit bis zum heutigen Tag.

Nach der Entdeckung verwitterter Skelette auf einer verlassenen Farm stößt der Ermittler Kenney auf die unterirdischen Tunnelsysteme und entfesselt ein blutiges Inferno …

Etwas unaussprechlich Böses wandelt durch die Utah-Territorien im Jahre 1882. Bürgerkriegsveteran und Kopfgeldjäger Tyler Cabe, der seinen Lebensunterhalt mit der gnadenlosen Verfolgung von Straftätern bestreitet, muss nun etwas jagen, das die Vorstellungskraft eines lebendigen Menschen bei weitem übersteigt.
