There is no link between celibacy and the priesthood. It should remain a choice for those who wanted it. It's a practical problem; not a theological problem. If it were a theological problem, the Eastern churches could not have married priests in their home territories.Benedict XVI PP has accepted married priests in an Ordinariate. This is perhaps the backdoor to the problem of married Clerics. As long as we can move into the 21st century, recognise the problems we have and get on with the real job of the Church, i.e. ministering to the needs of the laity in the best possible way recognising that we are now in the 21st century and not in post medieval times. Let us have happily married clerics who really want to be in the church to serve. Such a move could be beneficial, as clergy with a family could offer different gifts and it would enable men who did not feel called to celibacy to enter the priesthood. There is no reason why clerics shouldn't be allowed to marry. It has always been a matter of discipline rather than doctrine. The practice of not allowing clerics to marry in the Roman Catholic Church has its origins in discipline not doctrine. The book is good to all Christians.

When God Speaks we must Listen.Prayer itself born in Catholic families, nurtured by programs of Christian formation, strengthened by the grace of the sacraments,is the first means by which we come to know the Lord's will for our lives. To the extent that we teach young people to pray, and to pray well,we will be cooperating with God's call. Programs, plans and projects have their place;but the discernment of a vocation is above all the fruit of an intimate dialogue between the Lord and his disciples.Young people,if they know how to pray, can be trusted to know what to do with God's call. The Catholic Church teaches there are four types of vocation:but here we talk of life in a religious order, and life in the priesthood. Each vocation requires discernment, the process by which we determine God's will for our life.Religious orders and dioceses may have different requirements.Discern if you are ready to serve the Catholic church as a religious, living under the vow of chastity and obedience.Once you have completed the process of discernment, you can be admitted to a seminary or house of formation. This book is good before, formation during formation and after formation for Religious and Clergy.

Today Catholics understand celibacy to be the calling of some, but not all. They understand Jesus to have advocated celibacy as one of his councils of perfection; not for everyone but specifically those who seek the higher life of the Kingdom of Heaven: Not all men can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men,and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of Heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it.(Matthew 19.12).Jesus advocated for optional celibacy. The married priests support Jesus in advocating for optional celibacy. Many of the early fathers of the church praised the marriage of clergy. At the turn of the third century Clement of Alexandria promoted marriage as a way of salvation for all, including priests, deacons, and laity. Making celibacy mandatory for priests raises some problems. As a church mere discipline, celibacy may fit a priest''s life. But when it becomes mandatory it loses some lustre.Priesthood is a sacrament celibacy is not.The book is good for religious and clergy during formation and after.

In the Roman Catholic Church the word Magisterium refers to the teaching authority of the Church. This authority is understood to be embodied in the episcopacy, which is the aggregation of the current bishops of the Church in union with the Pope (excluding Eastern Orthodox Bishops and the Society of St. Pius X),led by the Pope, who has authority over the bishops, individually and as a body, as well as over each and every Catholic directly. According to Catholic doctrine, the Magisterium is able to teach or interpret the truths of the Faith, and it does so either non-infallibly or infallibly. The power to govern the church is divided into the power to make laws legislative, enforce the laws executive, and to judge based on the law judicial.A person exercises power to govern either because the person holds an office to which the law grants governing power or because someone with governing power has delegated it to the person. Ordinary power is the former, while the latter is delegated power. The office with ordinary power could possess the governing power itself or it could have the ordinary power of agency. The book is good to all Christians, clergy and Religious during and after formation

With a view to the pastoral service of our faithful, wherever they are to be found, and to respect the traditions of the Eastern churches, it would be desirable to study the possibility of having married priests outside the patriarchal territory. In 1998, the bishops of Australia issued a formal statement saying they had no opposition to married Eastern priests in Australia. The U.S. and Canadian bishops have expressed similar opinions, although not as formally. The Eastern churches also value the ministry of their married priests. At a time when the Latin-rite church is accepting and ordaining married former Anglican priests, it does not make sense to tell Eastern Catholics that they cannot exercise their tradition of a married priesthood. With the admittance of former Anglicans, we ask that these old prohibitions change so there would be equality between what the Latin and Eastern bishops are allowed to do.In the past, only Eastern-rite priests could be married. This book explains the difference between the marriage before ordination and marriage after ordination. The book is good to both christians in Latin and Eastern Rite traditions. It is good for laity, clergy and Religious
  • Ethics and Morality from an African Perspective Daniel W Kasomo
    ISBN: 9783843368919

    Язык: Английский
To do a course on ethics and morality one must start with a simple but complex question: "Are human beings capable of making moral choices without any form of legalised or codified morality"? In order to give a comprehensive answer to this question, scholars of ethics have tried to pose another fundamental question: What is ethics? What is the relationship between ethics and morality?Ethics or moral theology is not concerned with elucidation and justification of morality in a narrow sense. However it is clear that to assess people''s conduct as immoral or morally acceptable is to consider it from one point of view and not the only possible way of assessing the human act.In the study of moral theology we concern ourselves generally with questions about how we ought to live, what could count as good, reasons for acting in one way rather than another. We also consider what constitute a good life for human beings meaning thereby not necessarily morally good but treating as an open question where would be the proper place for morality for the good life or whether indeed it has any place there at all.The book is good to students and lecturers of ethics, morality, theology and philosophy.
  • Pastoral Counselling Using Social Psychology Daniel W Kasomo

Today many pastoral counselling orientations exist.A unique individual conceives each and no two individuals are the same. This individual lives in a particular cultural setting. He has had a long and wide experience of reading and observation as well as hours of painstaking practice, and reflection. The way each person portrays his own approach is unique to him. It shows how he views human nature. It indicates his own understanding of what makes an individual. However it is good to note that counsellors are born and trained and can also be both. One may have a lot of goodwill but not have the necessary skills or tools to deal with the job concerned. It follows therefore that a counsellor does not indeed have to adhere to a particular counselling viewpoint in order to be adept at helping people solve their problems. No theory can be adequately understood without some knowledge of the cultural and personal soil from which it springs. In counselling you need to be patient and non judgemental. This book tries to help you to be a better guidance and counselling person in your area and wherever you are.The book is good to all counsellors, clergy, religious and mentors in colleges and outside.

A research proposal is a plan that indicates the strategy the researcher intends to use in search of answers to the main research problem and specific research questions. The actual format of the research proposal,as well as its contents can vary from study to study. However,a research proposal should consist of the components in this book.Although reality provides us with innumerable problems, selecting a research problem is a delicate task. Out of the great variety of questions arising from our environment, one has to sort out problems adequate for scientific investigation. Only general guidelines on how to choose and formulate a research problem can be stated. The difficulty of providing students with precise directive for the selection of research problems is due to the diversity of the possible topics and their sources. This book is an expansion of lectures to my students at the Catholic university of Eastern Africa,Egerton University, Laikipia University College, Nakuru Town Campus of Egerton University, Military students studying Military Science in Moi Air base in Kenya, and Maseno University postgraduate Students. The book is good to universities engaged in proposal writing.

Since the onset of colonialism and Christian missionary influx in Africa, female circumcision has continued to be a controversial subject. In their endeavour to civilize and Christianize the Africans, the colonial administrators and the missionaries strove to eradicate African practices which they defined as acting as a hindrance to the achievement of their goals. One such custom which irked them was female circumcision.By the 1920s in Kenya, the issue had become a highly contested one particularly in Central Kenya. The missionaries and their Christian converts regarded clitoridectomy as a repugnant heathen custom, a meaningless mutilation of the body and a degradation of the spirit. They came up with a strong medical case against it,pointing out that it caused difficulties at childbirth and was generally unhealthy. They called for a law enactment to eradicate the custom. Although the colonial administrators held the same views on female circumcision due to their concern about the political consequences of such an enactment they settled for a policy of ameriolating the practice by restricting it to the cutting of the clitoris only. This book is good to all institutions in the globe.

This book has shown clearly that the struggles surrounding celibacy have worsened. If the church listened to the appeals of Bishops to offer celibacy as an option then today we would be harvesting divine graces. Celibacy has led some priests to commit sins far worse than fornication. Priests are getting married and there is shortage of priests in the church. Your Holiness Pope Benedict XVI you have all it takes to make celibacy optional. Your first priority as the Successor of Peter is unity because Jesus came so that we may be one. Strengthen your brothers the Married Priests who are already in their personal ordinariates on their marks with their mass box getting set for you to call them to full ministry. The Lord has heard their cry and it is the Spirit of the Lord in them speaking to you. The Church has nothing to loose by calling them. Is it wrong to call them to full ministry? Let the world join us in prayer that the arms of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI will be opened and he will be gracious and magnanimous as Holy Mother church should be to make celibacy optional and grant ordinariate to married priests. This book is an asset and a must read to all people in the world.

Today Anglican married priests are packing up their books, wives, children, and gold fish and moving into our Catholic rectories, while our experienced married Roman Catholic priests are taking up residence in Protestant Denominations. But the married priest hasn''t left Christ! What the hell is going on? Can you really throw away your own blood children and adopt that of another woman? Your Holiness Pope Benedict XVI you have got a case to answer! Pope John Paul''s II 1993 declaration that celibacy is not necessary for the priesthood and Pope Benedict''s XVI 2009 Creation of Anglican Ordinariate is an indication that celibacy can be declared optional. The current crisis facing the Catholic Church arising out of sexual abuse is arguably the most serious challenge the Church has faced since the Reformation in the 16th century. The response must in the first instance be clearly focussed on the victims of such abuse, their families and other secondary victims. The untold damage done to innocent people and its life-long consequences in many cases need to be clearly and honestly acknowledged. I am pleased where every effort is being made to see that justice is done for those affected and where all possible measures are being taken to bring about healing and reparation. In responding to sexual and other forms of abuse within the Church it is not enough to concentrate on the sinfulness of those guilty of abuse. It is a question of individual repentance a total systemic reform of Church structures which is needed.Hardly a day goes by without me hearing a cry from the heart for such change from people who truly love the Church laity priests and religious. Yet people often feel that no one is listening to their concerns. Pope Benedict XVI give married Priests Ordinariate to start the boll rolling. The book is the best to all Christians.

    Год издания: 2010
    Издательство: LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing
    Язык: Английский
In African culture and religion marriage is looked at as categorical imperative. It is a crime against humanity for a man not to get married and beget children. Otherwise who will pour libation for him. God commanded people to get married and bear children. In Africa one of the conditions to become an ancestor is to under go all rites of passage and initiation rites successfully and this includes marriage. Therefore marriage is looked upon as a sacred duty which every normal person must perform. Failure to do so means in effect stopping flow of life through the individual and hence the diminishing of mankind upon earth. Therefore anybody who under normal circumstances refuses to get married is committing a major offence in the eyes of society and people will be against him. Marriage is the meeting point for the three layers of human life. These are the departed, the living and those to be born. Through marriage the effects of death are reduced and neutralized. Marriage and childbearing are the medicine against death. This is a good research for those interested in culture, anthropology, and customs. It can be used in institutes as reference book on customary marriage.

The seven sacraments are ceremonies that point to what is sacred significant and important for Christians. They are special occasions for experiencing God''s saving presence. That''s what theologians mean when they say that sacraments are at the same time signs and instruments of God''s grace. If you learn more about the sacraments, you can celebrate them more fully. Among Christians, sacraments are said to derive from practices instituted by Jesus like the casting out of demons. In the name of each religion many abominable things have happened. Criminals who deserve to be called so, in the name of their religion have committed grievous crimes against humanity and have gone away with it without being punished. The poor majority who are called followers just blindly followed while before God they lacked a criteria to assure them that they were not in the right path. So far in the whole history of religion there is no religion which can claim Innocence. All religions have committed grievous sins in the name of God. The conclusion is that up till to-day no religion has understood God nor monopolized Him.The study of the interrelationships of the various religious trade and of the way in which themes and ideas are diffused in these traditions can help to understand more about each Religion. It is an attempt to achieve a generalization by comparing similar kinds of phenomena gathered with various religious traditions and disciplines, covering various parts of the world. This book is designed to help the reader to know more about religions.Knowing other peoples Religions helps in coexisting. The Book is good to all in the world interested in Religion
