4 A small synopsis

An inspirational essay, with some appealing depth of thought. Although inaccurate in detail, carries the message - it's supposed - fairly enough.

Particularily, inaccurate in the discussion of 'harmlessness' and 'usefulness' (even in terms of 'real' mathematics). Given that the main point (as I see it, 'Against the Fall of Night') doesn't suffer much from them and a certain amount of existentialism available to apply (if needs be) - it's rather a very unpleasant misfit, than nullifying statement.
Another crucial omission (or I'm naive) is the absence of the 'choice of pure desire and passion' (as opposed to existentialism and permanence idea of the author himself).

Summarizing, a reader may find either reassurance or appreciation, discovering the excitement of the 'true' nature of 'real' mathematics. And even, still more unlikely, an apology (or purpose) of his own...
